The Merryburn Story
We’d love to welcome you to our stylish rooms in Birnam, Dunkeld – Gateway to the Highlands
Our Story
The Merryburn Rooms
Birnam originates from the Victorian era with the coming of the railway in 1856. Originally the end of the line, many well to do Victorians took their holidays in the area including Beatrix Potter.
The Merryburn was built as an emporium of significance with wonderful owners accommodation above. The shop operated until the late 1960’s when the building was converted to a hotel.
In 2007 it was bought by its present owners, Deirdre and Hilary who have spent the last 16 years lovingly restoring it, mindful of its glorious past whilst taking into consideration the needs of the modern traveller.
